INSTRUCTOR: Rev. Dr. Jim Horthuis, Ph.D. (McMaster Divinity College)
Pastoral ministry is a rewarding and demanding vocation that requires spiritual maturity, personal competence, and cultural awareness. On any given day ministering persons are required to offer biblical counsel, navigate complex denominational processes, adhere to local church governance, discern vision, provide pastoral insight, and communicate the Gospel in a broken world. This course will help to equip students to navigate these complex and at times competing dimensions of the vocation of ministry. Students will be guided to understand their own vocational calling, challenged to practice authentic ministry, survey the organizational geography of the C&MA in Canada, and develop the tools to practice ministry in a sustainable and healthy manner. Rooted in the vision of developing Christ-Centered, Spirit-Empowered and Mission-Focused leaders, this course will explore a pastoral theology of ministry that delights in the triune God, embraces C&MA perspectives, and confirms one’s own calling and giftedness for ministry.
